The new cafe is located at 3429 Spring St. in Mount Pleasant.
Back to business at Blueberry Hilltop Cafe
This establishment may be new, but the owners and operators of this business have experience in the restaurant realm.
In the year After owning a local cafe in Racine County from 2011 to 2018, the Mendez family decided in June 2023 that the industry would rebrand.
“There was bitterness after we left. I miss my business life,” said Lisa.
Eager to get back into business, Lisa and her husband, Juan, opened Blueberry Hilltop Cafe on October 23rd.
Bowls and pans are once again filled with ingredients, and the Mendez family is turning those ingredients into homemade meals that all taste buds can enjoy.
How did he get his name?
The couple originally wanted to open a pancake house, but went in a different direction to focus on more food options. Instead, they opened a cafe.
When they thought of going with Pancake House, they tossed around the idea of including blueberries in the name.
When they decided to go with a cafe, the family decided on Blueberry Hilltop Cafe, keeping true to their passion for blueberries.
“We’re on a little hill, so we thought about Blueberry Hilltop Cafe,” explains Lisa.
The name is a good way to remember the place, and so it sticks.
A cafe that makes you feel at home
The place is suitable for families.
“I have received many compliments. It’s already a very, very, very comfortable, cozy, fun atmosphere,” Lisa shared.
The cafe has a rustic vibe. It gives a feeling of home. People consider it a place where they can do real home cooking.
“It’s a little gem; the inside matches the name,” says Lisa.
The Mendez family prides themselves on providing “great prices, great service and quality food.”
Lisa shares that she’s the friendly face you see when you visit the restaurant, and her other half is the one making your food.
“He works in the back and I work in the front. Everything is made to order,” the owner shared.
Together, they aim to provide an unforgettable meal that will make you feel at home and welcome.
Something for everyone
Juan enjoys cooking and making different items. There is something on the menu for everyone to enjoy.
Lisa shares that some popular dishes are French toast churros, any burger, Mexican food, and of course a Wisconsin favorite – the Friday Fish Fry.
Their waffles can be topped with chocolate and strawberry sauces, topped with dollop of whipped cream. French fries pair well with the Blueberry Hilltop Burger and Fried Chicken Breakfast Sandwich.
You’ve got classic eggs, omelets, breakfast specialties, casseroles, crepes, biscuits and gravy, salads, cheese curds, a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, and more.
Homemade fresh-squeezed orange juice is on the way to one of Lisa’s favorites at Blueberry Hilltop Cafe.
“It’s all good,” Lisa shared.
